I’ve been told it’s necessary to master social media and to have a blog in order to self-promote one’s writing, in this Brave New World of self-publishing. After two years of hesitation I started a blog (I don’t even like the word!) in December–jpkenna, Blue Collar Author. At times the effort seems futile. Six months later, I have 50 followers, but I wonder how many actually read my posts.
In truth, this 69-year-old–who is passionately in love with American history–feels like a Stranger in a Strange Land in the world of Social Media. I feel in the digital-age quests for efficiency and “connectedness” we are loosing a dimension of our humanity.
Hi Paul, so nice to see you here! It does feel strange to blog and seek out connections in this digital frontier, doesn’t it? And it can be hard to toil away on your posts if you’re not sure folks are reading. Keep the faith; it takes time and a lot of blog posts for people to find you. I don’t even pay attention to the numbers, but focus on providing the best quality content I can and connecting with the readers I do have. Best of luck!
