Hi - nice to have you stop by! K.B. Owen, Historical Mystery Author …Chasing the Cozy Thrill If you're here, I'm assuming you want to know a little more about me. I have a Ph.D. in 19th century British literature and used to teach college lit and writing courses. These days, I'm a historical mystery writer, and just finished the first two books in a series that I'm really excited about. The series is set in a nineteenth-century women’s college in Hartford, Connecticut - world filled with quirky and beguiling characters and mischief mixed with murder. Why Hartford? I fell in love with Hartford and its history while I was at Uconn (one of the top 7 party schools at the time – I got some work done, really!) Why a women's college in the 19th century? Well, you know what they say: go with what you know (and like!). My years teaching college literature and writing provided some interesting classroom experiences. Who can resist such good material? Thankfully, unlike my main character, Professor Concordia Wells, I didn’t have to lecture in a bustle and full skirts. Besides writing and blogging, I read as much as I have the time for (especially mysteries, my first love), and share a house with a husband, three sons, and an assortment of small, furry pets.   Welcome to Tuesday Terrific, where we celebrate getting over the Monday bump and picking up speed for the rest of the week. Today, we have a lot to celebrate, since it’s Mardi Gras, aka “Fat Tuesday.”  For a lot of us, it’s a day to indulge in goodies before the Lenten go-withouts kick in;…

Hmm, it was hard to come up with a ROW80 theme this week.  We have President’s Day (grade-school children in tall hats and fake beards, reading patriotic poetry), Mardi Gras (wild, bead-throwing, it-stays-in-Vegas revelry), and for some of us, Lent (religious, penitent, swearing off – gasp! – chocolate). Then I remembered…Fasnacht Day, originally a Pennsylvania…

Welcome to Tuesday Terrific, where we celebrate getting over the Monday bump and picking up speed for the rest of the week.   Unless you’ve been living in a hole dug in the ground, you know it’s Valentine’s Day! In anticipation of the occasion, I did the whole chocolate thing last week, here and here. So what topic…

Well, check-ins are probably healthier than chocolate this Valentine’s week, right?  Not that I’m swearing off chocolate! So, how did I do? My goals: 1. Check-ins on Sundays. Yep, I’m getting the hang of this one! 2. Blog posts on Tues/Fri schedule. I really reveled in the chocolate “experience” this week, between my Tuesday post…

We love chocolate!  It’s hard to imagine a world without it.  As promised in my previous post on chocolate, today we’ll take a quick look at the history behind it.  When did folks first discover it, and what forms did it take?  How did it change over time?         The beginnings: Mesoamerica…

Welcome to Tuesday Terrific, where we celebrate getting over the Monday bump and picking up speed for the rest of the week.   Valentine’s Day – a week from today!  The occasion means different things to different folks.  For the kiddos, it could mean Batman/Hello Kitty classroom valentines, or those “sweetheart” chalky candies with the goofy…
