My Love Tweets Before Twitter

heartHappy Valentine’s Day, everyone!

Last year, hubby and I did a joint blog post about each other’s foibles.  Ah, married life can be so entertaining – especially from the sidelines. 😉

This year, I’ve been thinking about how communication has been radically altered in the 20+ years Paul and I have been married.  If we were courting today, what would it be like?

Instead of those little love notes on scraps of paper…at breakfast, over a candlelit dinner, propped on the car dashboard for me to find…we’d be tweeting, Facebook messaging, and emailing.

And that wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing: instant access regarding one another’s day, our thoughts, feelings, and maybe a poetic verse or two.  My inner English major would have a field day:

Over time, though, my lovey tweets might have started looking more like this:

And what if we had Twitter and smart phones at our wedding?  Oh, I never told you that story?  Well, let’s see if you can get the gist of it from the following tweets that I might have sent on my wedding day:

The good news: it all worked out in the end (and now I have a blog post to show for it)!  And just for the record, we really did have the best priest, organist, limo driver, Maid of Honor, Best Man, family and friends at our wedding.  Despite the hiccups, it was a great way to start our life together.

I’m hoping that Paul can regale you with his side of the story in the comments section when he gets home tonight.  Boy, is he going to be surprised by all the tweets in his inbox. 😉

How are you celebrating Valentine’s Day?  Has social media changed the way you communicate with loved ones?  Any #WeddingFails out there?  I’d love to hear from you!

Until next time,

Kathy

    So funny! Hubby and I wee just watching a couple on a date and they were so involved in their technology. She was on Facebook and he was checking out something or other. I just felt *sigh* they aren’t looking at each other. Remember how we used to look at each other before Smartphones and all this technology? SO I’m excited to have a little getaway with hubby and some old friends this weekend — to celebrate 20 years of love — together.

    Wow, that sounds wrong.

    {We aren’t doing “it” together.}

    But we met our significant others and fell in love at the same time. We spent so much time together — and we can’t wait to hang out with them to reminisce about my jet black hair. And hubby’s mullet. And how skinny we used to be. And Valentine’s Day before kids.

    No phones allowed. 🙂

    I love it! I’ll bet those tweets in his inbox will have him more than a bit confused. 😉

    And yes, I have some wedding fail stories, but I’m saving them for my stress management post next week!

    Haha! Gosh, this is a good one. I cannot imagine what sort of texts, tweets, msgs would be sent by us. I started to laugh when we said our vows, a sort of hysterical giggle. And my grandmother, God bless her, said in a stage whisper the whole church could hear (she was as deaf as a post) ‘I KNEW she was too calm and collected. Now she’s breaking her heart, someone give her a tissue.’

    She then proceeded to bawl her eyes out.

    Those were the days. Lovely dress, btw. You look about twelve.

    Oh this is so funny! The ring part reminded me of my youngest sister’s wedding. Her tweets would’ve chronicled my mom locking the rings in her car trunk with the key, then AAA coming, etc. 🙂

    That’s great! Only thing I’ve have added is a camera so you could skype the ceremony to everyone in attendance and abroad.

    Cute picture. So glad things turned out well for the two of you.

    My hubby and I exchanged a few little goodies this morning before rushing off to our jobs. I got roses and candy, he got candy and a cute stuffed teddy bear. Of course after he left the house I put a new pair of jeans out for him to find when he gets home. I’m sneeky that way.

    Happy Valentine’s Day, Kathy!

    Loved this! Beautiful pic too. I think our tweets would have gone something like:

    @Spock2Point0 Mom says I can’t see you today. Since when has she been so old-fashioned? #familydrivingmecrazy
    @JulieGlover Bored. When do I show up?
    @Spock2Point0 Seriously? You’re ready? Why aren’t you here helping me?! I’m frantic! #30minutecountdown
    @JulieGlover I agree that it is illogical that I can’t see you just b/c we’re getting married soon.
    @Spock2Point0 Logic schmogic! I’m a bundle of emotions here. Still need to do my hair.
    @JulieGlover Your hair looks fine.
    @Spock2Point0 How do you know? You can’t see me?!! Not until that aisle moment. #willmeltifseen
    @JulieGlover Can we get this over with? I’m ready to say I Do.
    @Spock2Point0 Can’t wait for the wedding night, eh?
    @JulieGlover 😀
    @Spock2Point0 Get ready. I’m coming down the aisle. And you’d better make a big deal about how awesome I look! #whitewedding
    @JulieGlover WOW.

    Yes, I was frantic, my mom wouldn’t let me see him, I had told him to make me feel pretty, and he really did mouth “Wow” as I walked down the aisle. Now at 20 years and counting. 🙂 Maybe my mom was right; obviously, we’ve had good luck after all.

    OMG, Kathy, this was so funny. I can just picture it now, with both of you hunched over your cell phone typing furiously. You know, this would make a terrific romcom. LOL

    Happy 20th anniversary to you and Paul!

    That is fantastic! I can’t wait to see Paul’s feedback. He must’ve been laughing his guts out today.

    Oh, and your FabPriest looks like he was about 15. 🙂

    OMG! I am laughing so hard it is hard to see the screen! That was AWESOME! We were at my cousin’s wedding this past June and as they were doing the vows, exchange of rings, and Man and Wife – Kiss the Bride, everyone was pulling out iPhones! I felt out of place with my digital camera 🙂 Thanks for Sharing.

    Weddings with major foul-ups are so much interesting than those that go smoothly. My wedding and honeymoon went off without a hitch – then a couple of months later we attended a friends’ wedding in Germany, where EVERYTHING went wrong. We’ve talked about it SO much more than our own, that I’m almost jealous.

    Hilarious, Kathy! But you know what? I’m glad it’s only a ‘what if…?’ post. I think people lose out on so much with technology today. Like someone said…a couple on a date and neither one of them can put their cell phones away. It’s kind of sad. But imagining how different situations in our lives might have been…is funny. Imagine some woman in labor, texting her way through childbirth. “Oops. Using hubby’s phone now. That last pain was a doozy. #RIPiPhone” 🙂

    What a hoot! I think weddings are God’s way of testing the relationship. So happy for you that you guys passed. 🙂
