Need a Dowager Fix?

Hi, everyone!  I was looking up “dowager” to make sure I had the correct usage in my current project (book 3 of the Concordia Wells mysteries).  Among the search results, Google obligingly offered a video collage of one-liners and mannerisms from Downton Abbey’s own dowager, Lady Violet Grantham.

Even though I came to the series in the second season (but I caught up!), I’m a huge Downton fan.  And actress Maggie Smith portrays the cantankerous, witty-yet-dignified Lady Grantham to perfection.

So, for those of you who can’t wait for the next season of Downton Abbey, or those of you who enjoy Maggie Smith, or even those of you who simply like a dry wit, here’s a clip you’ll enjoy:

As Lady Grantham would say, “What is a weekend?”  We’ll have to wait and see!

Happy Wednesday,

Kathy

I was afraid at one point in my life that I might just become a dowager. But alas, I could not bring myself to kill the man. I just divorced him instead. And he left me nothing but debt and heartache. So even if I could have braved the law by offing the ex, I still would not have risen to dowager status, unless bankruptcy counts as a “holding.”

Great clips, Kathy. Love Maggie Smith. I used to have a grandmother exactly like here, only it wasn’t funny then. She didn’t have a stately home either, just the attitude!

My favorite lines have to be

“You can normally find an Italian” and “No englishman would dream of dying in someone else’s house.”

    Brilliant.

    Cheers
