The Universe, and Us: take a moment to be inspired

I’d like to share a little inspiration with you today, for those times when you are feeling out of sorts with the universe.  This will cheer you right up!

It comes from astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson, who has an impressive background:  he’s currently director of the Hayden Planetarium, has been a regular on PBS science specials, has written numerous books and given many lectures/podcasts on the subject of space.  He was also appointed by then-President Bush as part of a commission to study the future of the U.S. Aerospace industry, and received NASA’s Distinguished Public Service Medal, the highest honor the organization bestows upon a non-government person.

Time Magazine interviewed him a while back, and this was one of the questions they asked:  “What is the most astounding fact you can share with us about the universe?”

Videographer Max Schlickenmeyer has taken Tyson’s answer and turned it into a piece of videographic art that will truly inspire you.  Enjoy!

What do you find inspiring?  I’d love to hear from you!

Until next time,

Kathy

Wow, Kathy! That is some photo. I’m inspired by the fact that there’s far more good in the world than bad, live music, beautiful writing and inspiring pals. Like you. Great post. 🙂

Awesome, Kathy. The universe become smaller the more we know about it (not that I know much, but the pictures look good). I find it amazing that people can spend their entire lives trying to understand just one elementary particle, yet the universe just does it. No thinking, no maths, no computing the most likely outcome, the universe just does it.

Maybe Nike has it right after all?

    Cheers!

Maybe that’s what we need to do Nigel, be more like the Universe, especially since we the Universe!

I love this so much. I’ve watched it twice, second time with my youngest. I want to share it with everyone — do you care if I post this later (with reference to your blog)?

    A joy as always!

Have you had a chance to pop over to Symphony of Science and enjoy some of the videos there… My son loves them (and DeGrasse Tyson is …well, he’s one of our household heroes).

Thank you for sharing and … here’s one of my favorite Babylon 5 scenes…. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhD0hbGEDSU it fits this so perfectly. I hope you enjoy.
